Commands What does it stand for? When do you use it?
man

man formats and displays the on-line manual pages. If you specify section, man only looks in that section of the manual.

when we need to check that you have the command uses.

 

pwd

Use the pwd command to print the working directory (the current directory you are in)

when we want to know which directory we are.

 

sudo

sudo allows a permitted user to execute a command as the superuser or another user, as specified in the sudoers file.

when we need root permissions.

 

cd

changes the directory.

when we want to change directories.
ls

lists the contents of a directory.

when we want to know the directory contents.
su

change the effective user id and group id to that of user.

when we need to switch users.
